WHY MEASURE FRICTION

The bottom line in friction measuring is safety. The FAA and ICAO both require all commercial airports to know the friction level on the runway and have full control over landing conditions.

But by using ASFTs CFME with New Generation computer for data storage, transmission, and utilization, airports can also benefit from a perfectly objective measurement system, independent of the operator, and make friction measuring an integral part of efficient and cost-effective operations:

In winter conditions (operational measuring)

  • to control and guide snow-removal and de-icing operations.

In non-winter conditions (functional measuring)

  • to direct and plan runway maintenance
  • to determine friction values during poor drainage conditions.
